Island Hopping Kauai
Garden Island
Day three and four of our fast ten day trip to the Hawaiian Islands took us to Kauai, the fourth largest of the islands.
Waimea canyon known as the Grand Canyon of the Pacific is a myriad of colors. Ten miles long and up to 3,000 feet deep, Waimea means reddish water in Hawaiian.
Next we are of too explore what else Kauai has to offer.
Wailua falls is a one of many falls on Kauai.
Next we were off to check out another waterfall were locals like to dive off the cliffs Into the water.
Pressed for daylight we hurried down a half mile path to Ho’oipi’i Falls.
A few locals were still there enjoying the day and dives. Too bad we did not bring our swim suits.
The next morning we were up and ready for a hike in one of many of the State or National Parks on the Island. There are hundreds of trails to enjoy.
We stumbled upon a small waterfall in a lagoon with no one there. Good thing we were prepared and brought our swim suits but being alone maybe we will keep our suits dry.
Along our two mile hike there was Flora and Fauna at every step. Some we knew and others we had no idea what they were.
Next on our stop was Kilauea Lighthouse and a quick hike to the lighthouse.
On our way we ran into a gaggle of Nene. Hehe, first time i found a way to use the word Gaggle on a blog. They are said to have evolved from the Canadian goose.
Taro is an important staple in Hawaiian Cuisine. There are plenty of Taro fields found in Hanalei Valley.
We maximized our two days in Kauai but wished we had another five days.
Tommorow brings our next island Maui.
